Decision Delayed Until July 30th

La Serena, Landau, April 30th, 2010

Suez Energy has applied for and been granted an extension of time to submit its final statement in the environmental review process of its intended building of a power plant. It now has until July 30th to present its arguments. The people's movement MODEMA sees this application by Suez Energy as a sign of insecurity.

Suez Energy is obviously unsure whether the new members of the regional environmental commission, Corema, will vote for the building of the power plant in Punta Barrancones.

The delay is also positive because it gives MODEMA 16 weeks (instead of only four) to bring its arguments to the newly-appointed members of the commission. This further means that we can continue and significantly broaden the protest campaign "STOP the Social and Environmental Catastrophe" until the middle of June, 2010.
